French Property Notary's fees, what are they?
Under the umbrella of the term Notary’s fees, there are actually three types of fees payable to the Notaire. These are:
- Professional fees that you pay to compensate the Notary and his practice for their job in help you buying or selling a French Property.
- Disbursements fees. These are fees that your solicitor will incur in advance for searches, services and documents on your behalf.
Notaries pay local administration services such as cadastral services, mortgage deeds companies. They may as well pay expert surveyors on your behalf (land or building surveyors). So you’ll to pay back what they’ve disbursed. - Taxes (local taxes and purchases) are payable to the treasury and the local administration. Your Notary collect theses taxes from you on behalf of the government and the local administration.
So we can see that only the Notary’s professional fees go into their pocket. All other fees go to the government and local administration and services.
